When Robot Koch recorded his last album “The Next Billion Years” in Estonia together with conductor Kristjan Järvi and the Nordic Pulse Orchestra the Covid Pandemic had not yet hit the world. A full tour was booked for the release, which was set in spring 2020 and, which would have included a full ensemble. However, with the pandemic already having arrived at this point, the shows were canceled and the album could not be supported live. As a true creative Koch used the newfound time in the lockdown to develop his new ambient project “Foam and Sand”.

With “The Next Billion Years (Foam and Sand Reworks)” Koch revisits his latest album through the newfound ambient lense of “Foam and Sand”. The new album therefore entirely consists of reworks and re-imaginations of tracks from the preceding album, nevertheless, it is not just old music made new. “Foam and Sand” has its very own unique and signature style. Creating a more intimate sound as a contrast to the large orchestral arrangements of “The Next Billion Years” the “Foam and Sand Reworks” are minimal, focused, and based on purely essential sounds.

In the process of creating the reworks Koch dove deep into the details of his music, stripping away everything he felt not to be essential. This concept of zooming into the core of a musical organism is also represented through the visuals created by Magnificent Matter. The videos amplify the music´s intricate approach and take the viewer on stunning visual journeys filled with hidden details.
